About MCSE Certification

Firstly, there are two types of MCSE certification to think about (and believe me, neither of them are a walk in the park) MCSE 2003, as well as having a handy rhyme has 6 core exams and one final elective exam. Of those 6 core exams, 4 of them are networking exams centred around your ability to maintain and plan a MS Windows 2003 server environment and as for the elective exam you are give a choice of 15 and must then pass in order to gain the qualification.

Regarding the MCSE 2000 qualification, there are a grand total of 5 core exams. Three of those exams are about operating, maintaining and programming. As well as including support skills from windows NT to XP. There is also 2 elective exams (a noticeable bump from NCSE 2003's one elective exam, so keep that in mind) which usually focus's on your technical ability in solution and design.

All in, each core exam will last 175 minutes a piece with 45 or so questions to answer, so it's hardly an easy process to qualify. But imagine the path your career could take when you do pass. More pay, less hours, gold bullion sent you your front door via expensive curriers (okay, so I made that last part up). Seriously though, in my eyes, there are few things more likely to give your career in IT the jump start it needs. Don't be put off by the effort, it's worth it.

Well, if you just start to get know about it, you would feel it's really hard to understand, and you might think that you cannot get this certification. But if you work hard for it, you will find it's not so tough as you think before. No pain, No gain. I always believe that if people want to gain something, he or she must understand to give, but not just gain.

MCSE Certification: Another Step to Expertise

MCSE (Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer) certification is recognized worldwide. This examination is primarily meant for engineers and coders who work in the infrastructure domain. Until recently, it was easier to get a job as a Network Engineer, Systems Engineer, or an I. T. Manager, if one had taken an MCSE certified examination.

The MCSE exam is not easy to pass. One has to take seven exams before being certified as an MCSE professional. These examinations include four networking exams, one client operating system exam, a design exam and an elective.

Various topics of the examination include "Managing and Maintaining a Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Environment, Installing, Configuring and Administering Microsoft Windows XP Professional and Designing Security for a Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Network".

Now one can specialize in two fields, Messaging and Security. For both specializations, additional papers need to be studied.

Studying for MCSE certification is easy, as there are many online books and videos etc available. Some sites also provides you with some free material. There are many types of software providing real time simulation of the examination, which is very helpful for examination practice.

Most tests come with detailed questions and answers as well as proper analysis. This helps a lot in preparation of the examinations. There are many prep kits as well as study notes available for preparation on the internet.

There are some cheat softwares available on the internet as well, but the entire purpose of taking an examination is defeated if one uses this method to pass the examination.

This certification is more helpful for people who have had some sort of experience, rather than those who have just started working or are still in college. In the dotcom boom, many people who had little or no relevant experience took this certification, which has diluted the value a little bit.

This certification is quite popular compared to other certifications. This is due to the expertise gained, the ease of studying for it, and taking the examination. In addition, Microsoft software is used so much that any expertise is bound to be very helpful in the work of techies.

MCSE certification may not immediately get anybody a job, but in the case of a tie, it will surely help recruiters decide in favor of a certified professional. It is a hygiene factor now - one that nobody wants to avoid.

Any professional who has some experience in server management and allied fields will gain hugely from this certification. This certification increases the knowledge base, and also gives the stamp of being an expert in the relevant technologies.

To view GPO revision information associated with an RSoP query, complete the following steps

To view GPO revision information associated with an RSoP query, complete the following steps:

1.      In the desired RSoP query console, expand the user account-RSoP or the computer

account— RSoP node. Right-click User Configuration or Computer Configuration, and

then click Properties.

2.      In the User Configuration Properties or the Computer Configuration Properties

dialog box, in the General tab, shown in Figure 11-13, select the Display Revision

Information check box. The location of the revision information for the GPOs

appears in the Revision column.

Computer Configuration Properties dialog box, displaying revision information Reusing RSoP Queries Generated with the Resultant Set Of Policy Wizard

As discussed earlier in this lesson, you can reuse saved RSoP queries. To reuse an RSoP query, simply open the appropriate RSoP query console from the Administrative Tools menu. The query regenerates and displays the new query results on the console. If you open an RSoP console that contains archived data, you receive a message identifying the console as containing archived data.

Note If the query is generated in Logging mode, and you change the settings in a GPO and then rerun the RSoP query, you do not see the new GPO settings reflected for a user unless the user logs on after the new GPO settings are implemented.

RSoP Planning Mode Options

There are several RSoP Planning mode options. Each option can be run separately or in conjunction with the other options, allowing for a wide range of simulation results. As you progress through the Resultant Set Of Policy Wizard, the Planning mode options are presented to you in the following order:

1.      Slow-network connection. This option simulates a slow connection. A con-

nection is slow if the rate at which data is transferred (from the domain controller

that provides a policy update to the computers in this group) is slower than the

rate that is specified by this GPO. The system's response to a slow policy connection varies among policies.

2.      Loopback processing. This option simulates enabling of the GPO setting User

Group Policy Loopback Processing Mode, located in Computer Configuration,

Administrative Templates, System, Group Policy. The simulation can be set to

Merge or Replace. Select Merge to simulate the appending of the GPO list

obtained for the computer at computer startup to the GPO list obtained for the

user. Select Replace to simulate replacement of the GPO list for the user -with the

GPO list already obtained for the computer at computer startup.

3- Site name. This option simulates the application of alternate subnets for startup or logging on, enabling you to predict the RSoP if the subnet is changed.

4.      Alternate user and computer locations. This option simulates the application

of alternate locations for both users and computers, enabling you to predict the

RSoP if the user and/or computer is moved.

5.      Alternate user and computer security groups. This option simulates the

application of alternate security groups to both computer and user configurations,

enabling you to predict the RSoP using security groups to filter GPO scope.

6.      WMI filters for users and computers. This option simulates the use of WMI

filters to help define the policy settings that are applied, enabling you to predict the RSoP using WMI queries to filter GPO scope.

Exam Tip Make sure you understand the differences between using RSoP in Logging mode and in Planning mode.

MCSE 70-270 free study notes

Since we posted MCSE 70-270 exam TechNotes(1) about installing XP Professional,it has been a long time .However ,on that post ,we did not list or post all of  the explanation to the topic areas for this exam .When you read through that post , you still can not pass MCSA 70-270 exam for sure.Although we once post an article about 70-270 study guide ,there are just some common questions such as passing score, how to choose best materials or resources ,which practice tests are better, and so on.To help us better understand XP technology or get high scores in this exam ,we will post all of my study notes to all objectives. If you are confused or have problems ,you can tell us or you can via  Microsoft TechNet to get better answers .

Disks formatted with the FAT file system can be accessed by MS-DOS, all versions of Windows, and OS/2. The maximum supported volume size is 4 GB, the maximum file size is 2 GB.

The faster file system FAT32, is often used in multi-boot situations with operating systems that do not support NTFS. Disks formatted with the FAT32 file system are supported by Windows 95 OSR2, Windows 98 and ME, Windows 2000, and Windows XP. Windows NT 4 and earlier cannot access FAT32 volumes. The maximum supported volume size for FAT32 is 2 TB, but Windows XP can format up to 32 GB only. The maximum file size is 4 GB. The minimum size for a FAT32 volume is 512 MB. You cannot format removable media such as floppy disks with Disks formatted with NTFS version 5 can only be accessed by Windows NT 4.0 with Service Pack 4 or higher, Windows 2000, and Windows XP. NTFS supports a volume size over 2 TB and the maximum file size is limited only by the available free space. You cannot format removable media such as floppy disks with NTFS. Besides being able to handle large disks,

NTFS is the preferred file system for Windows 2000 and XP because of the extra features it offers, including:
- File and folder permissions – (discussed below)
- File and folder compression – (discussed below)
- Encrypted File System (EFS) – (see EFS TechNotes)
- Disk Quotas – Allows quotas to be assigned to users for disk space usages per volume. Quotas are only available on NTFS volumes and can be enabled and configured on the Quotatab on a volume’s Properties sheet.

This is the file system used on compact discs. You cannot format regular disks with this file system.
Converting File Systems.

You can convert FAT file systems to NTFS using the following command: convert c: /fs:ntfs
The convert utility cannot be used to convert from NTFS to another file system. For example if you converted a FAT32 partition to NTFS and you want to revert it back to FAT32,you will have to create a full backup, reformat the drive with FAT32, and restore the backup.
FILE AND FOLDER COMPRESSION.

NTFS Compression allows compression of individual files and folders, as well as entire NTFS drives. The process of compression and decompression is transparent to the user. For example, when a user opens a document from a NTFS compressed disk, the document is decompressed automatically, when the user saves the document it is compressed again. Thisprocess might decrease your computer’s performance; it’s best to compress static data and only if it really saves space, you don’t want to waste CPU cycles compressing a ZIPfile for example. An NTFS-compressed file cannot be encrypted, and an encrypted file cannot be compressed. If you do enable compression for an encrypted file, the file will lose it’s encryption attribute before it is compressed.

You can enable compression for a volume when you format it. To enable compression on an existing volume, right-click it and choose Properties from the context menu, on theGeneral tab enable the option Compress drive to save disk space. To compress a file or folder, right-click it and choose Properties from the context menu, click the Advanced button and below Compress and Encrypt attributes enable the option Compress contents to save disk space. When you enable compression on a folder or volume, Windows will ask if you want to enable compression for all the files and subfolders in the folder or volume as well. Besides using Windows Exporer, you can also use the command compact to compress or decompress a file or folder.

Designing Internetworks for Multimedia

As Table indicates, the storage formats deliver different lines of resolution. Resolution is a measure

of an image’s quality. From the viewer’s perspective, an image with higher resolution yields sharper

picture quality than a lower resolution image.

Most consumer televisions display roughly 330 lines of horizontal resolution. Broadcast

environments typically used high-end cameras to capture video. These cameras and their associated

storage formats can deliver horizontal resolutions of approximately 700 lines. Each time a copy is

made, the copied image loses some of its resolution. When an image is recorded in high-resolution,

multiple generations of the video can be copied without a noticeable difference. When an image is

recorded in a lower resolution, there is less room to manipulate the image before the viewer notices

the effects.

Digitizing video involves taking an analog video signal and converting it to a digital video stream

using a video capture board, as shown in Figure 13-4. Today, a variety of computer platforms,

including PC, Macintosh, and UNIX workstations, offer video capture capabilities. In some cases,

though, the capture equipment is a third-party add-on. The analog video source can be stored in any

video storage format or it can be a live video feed from a camera. The source can be connected to

the video capture card using any three connectors types (component, S-Video, or composite)

depending on the connector type that the card supports.
